SUMMARY
A controversial news headline went viral on social media recently suggests that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has rescheduled the time table for 2020 WAEC examinations to commence on April 16th, 2020.
CONCLUSION
The claim is false,unfounded and invalid as the West African Examination Council has not released any official statement specifying and validating April 16th 2020 as the commencement date of the Examination.

In the past few weeks, there have been controversy and disbelief amongst many Nigerian students most especially secondary school students(WAEC candidates) when a claim that there has been rescheduling of the Examination time table and that WAEC Examination is set to commence on April 16th 2020 surfaced the internet. This claim circulated massively on different social media platform and has caused various complaints from the students who were on invitable holiday due to the lock-down caused by COVID-19 pandemic.
VERIFICATION
Few weeks ago Patrick Areghan, Nigeria’s head of WAEC national office, said the examination scheduled to begin April 6, 2020, was postponed as a result of coronavirus pandemic.

In a bid to address the general public on the update of the 2020 waec examination, the Examination council through its Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria, Demianus G. Ojijeogu, released a press release which debunked the aforementioned claim and urged the candidates to take advantage of the rich resources provided by it on their portals to keep themselves updated pending the commencement of the Examination.
